Seattle Central College Fine Arts Building

SCC FINE ARTS BUILDING

This renovation of a five-story, 1915 Masonic Temple into classrooms and offices for the Fine Arts Department of Seattle Central Community College was completed in the bustling Capitol Hill neighborhood. Scope of work includes seismic upgrades for the entire building, interior alterations of approximately 39,000 SF, new roofing and insulation, ADA accessible entrances, mechanical and electrical upgrades. The building also houses the Egyptian Theater, which is leased as a movie theater. Special design consideration was taken with preserving the fine historic details of the existing building and clearly defining the modern improvements. Skylights were introduced into the upper floor classrooms to provide natural light for painting and design studios. JOAP was the prime consultant responsible for overall project management, architectural design, and construction administration.
