Wedgwood Retail Center

WEDGWOOD RETAIL CENTER

This new Wedgwood building is designed as a pedestrian-oriented neighborhood retail center. Bounded by an existing retaining wall of up to sixteen-feet on the north, south and west property lines; the site had limited circulation and parking opportunities. The site plan divides the property into two structures and sites them adjacent to 35th Avenue, which allows parking and vehicular circulation to be accommodated behind the buildings. This approach also allows pedestrians to interact minimally with traffic and displays the tenants’ storefront and signage to traffic along 35th Avenue. A palette of concrete masonry units, brick, steel and glass are combined as a modern interpretation of a modest, main street retail building. Cantilevered steel canopies and trellises depth to the facade and protection from the elements. An indoor-outdoor fireplace provides a pleasant meeting area on the southern patio.
