Waiting for the Interurban

WAITING FOR THE INTERURBAN

The “Waiting for the Interurban” sculpture was part of series of urban art projects for the Fremont Public Association that Steve Johnson, as executive director of Environmental Works helped plan, design, coordinate and install. Other projects included the Ship Canal park “Art-Stairs” and installations at the Good Shepard Center. Waiting for the Interurban is the most famous of these projects. Steve Johnson assisted in the selection of the artist, Richard Byer, the design and fabrication of the pergola and in the installation of the piece (which was accomplished by “discrete initiative” on an early Sunday morning).
