MONIQUE LOFTS

The challenge of this project was to breathe new life into an abandoned, partially damaged warehouse structure. Recreated as a residential and retail building, Monique Lofts is developed with efficient residential floor plans within a fixed structural grid, resolving many seismic issues. Specific highlights are the creative planning of vertical circulation in conjunction with seismic reinforcement, a facade design that carefully disguises the rhythm of the floor plans that is in harmony with the existing structure, and resolving land use and building code issues that set policy standards in the City of Seattle for subsequent adaptive reuse projects. The loft residences open up ceilings to 18’ including mezzanines and exposed wood structure. The units feature minimal, manufactured kitchen units, large windows with internal bracing and industrial finishes.
